Travelogue IV: Philadelphia to Providence

Last little one of these, no more travel for a while. I’ll return to normalcy Friday, maybe with some extras, haven’t decided yet.

A shorter drive, so not much:

The Crossing/International Contemporary Ensemble - Seven Responses

Aizuri Quartet - Blueprinting

Somehow, even more Gastropod. In fact, gasp, listening to Gastropod as I write this.

The Crossing/International Contemporary Ensemble - Seven Responses

Caroline Shaw’s To The Hands and Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen’s Ad Cor are both just standards for me at this point. Shaw’s music is typically gorgeous, tonal-referencing, and features spoken bits by the choir. Gudmunsen-Holmgreen is also in character here, the first three movements, with extended block chords and metronomic figures, find themselves superimposed in the final movement, which, to be honest, doesn’t feature enough development.

Top Tracks: Shaw and Gudmundsen-Holmgreen

Aizuri Quartet - Blueprinting

I am mostly here for Gabriela Smith’s Carrot Revolution which sounds both nothing and exactly like the name suggests. Shaw is also here and also great with her classic deconstruction of a classical work in Blueprint. Yevgeniy Sharlat’s RIPEFG is great, but maybe too detailed for a road trip listen to do justice.
